Now available in the US, the LapBox tissue containment system enables minimally invasive hysterectomies with manual morcellation for improved patient outcomes and lowered risk of cancer cell spread
NAZARETH, Israel — November 1st, 2023 — Ark Surgical, a medical device company developing safer surgical options for women’s health, announced today the completion of its first successful hysterectomy procedures in the US using the LapBox tissue containment system for manual morcellation. Dr. Shabnam Gupta, MD, MPH, Dr. Nisha Garg and Dr. Thomas Waliser from the Arizona Gynecology Consultants were among the first surgeons to use the FDA-cleared LapBox.
“To prevent the risk of cancer spread, there is a critical need for innovative solutions that enable the safe and contained removal of large tissues during minimally invasive hysterectomies and other gynecology procedures. We take pride in pioneering these advancements in the US with the successful completion of our initial procedures using the FDA-cleared LapBox for manual morcellation. The easy-to-use LapBox supports efficient and secure extraction of large tissue for improved care,” said Amy Garcia, MD, MIG fellow – GYN Surgeon, Owner of The Center for Women’s Surgery and Ark Surgical Advisor.
The FDA called for new solutions after morcellation, a process used to cut large tissues into smaller pieces for easy removal, had been linked with cancer spread. The LapBox tissue containment system is uniquely designed with a double-walled container to create a secure, enclosed environment to prevent the risk of cancer cell spread during morcellation. It also employs an easy-to-use delivery technology providing gynecologists with improved control and maneuverability to optimize laparoscopic surgery.
With many hysterectomies still performed today as open surgery, the LapBox manual solution empowers gynecologists to offer a minimally invasive alternative to accelerate patient recovery and lower hospital stay and costs.
“We are delighted to partner with the Arizona Gynecology Consultants for our initial cases. Today millions of women require hysterectomies and myomectomies, and preventing the risk of cancer spread during these procedures is vital for healthcare facilities to enhance patient care. Our user-friendly, FDA-approved device ensures cancer containment, offering peace of mind for surgeons, patient protection, and reduced hospital liability,” said Stav Tori, CEO of ArkSurgical Ltd.
Backed by expanding clinical experience, the FDA-cleared LapBox for manual morcellation is now available in the US.
