Respiratory Air Conditioning Devices Market: Approach Discussed In Report By Industry Experts will Drive the Rapid Evolution of the Market By 2030 | Dickinson Corporation, Teleflex, Inc., WILAmed GmbH, ARMSTRONG MEDICAL, Respicare DME, Inc.

June 19th, 2023 Coherent Market Insights Releases

Respiratory Air Conditioning Devices Market

Respiratory air conditioning devices are designed to alter the temperature and humidity of the air before it is inhaled by patients. Respiratory humidifiers play a vital role in conditioning respiratory gas, which is necessary for sensitive lungs. Patients who have respiratory systems that fail to provide adequate humidification and warming are at risk of worsening pulmonary infections and lung tissue damage. Respiratory humidifiers, therefore, artificially warm and humidify the air to be inhaled, especially in such patients. If patients with compromised respiratory function inhale dry and cold air, it may lead to the formation of thick mucus, affecting the functioning of cilia and causing swelling of the mucous membrane, blockage of air passages, and congestion of secretion in the respiratory apparatus. To prevent these complications, respiratory heaters are used. These systems are used in both invasive and non-invasive ventilation and maintain a physiological temperature of 37°C with an optimum of 100% relative humidity. Respiratory heaters are externally attached to the nebulizer system to provide controlled warming of the air for inhalation, either through cannula or tracheotomy.

Competitive Landscape

Several prominent companies are active in the global respiratory air conditioning devices market, including Becton and Dickinson Corporation, Teleflex, Inc., WILAmed GmbH, ARMSTRONG MEDICAL, Respicare DME, Inc., GREAT GROUP MEDICAL CO., LTD., and Medline Industries, Inc.

Market Dynamics

The respiratory air conditioning devices market is expected to grow due to the rising prevalence of respiratory diseases like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchitis. These diseases can sometimes be fatal, as per the World Health Organization (WHO) factsheet from May 2018, where chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lower respiratory tract infections are among the top five chronic diseases leading to the highest number of global deaths. In 2016, around 3 million people died due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, while lower respiratory tract infections caused approximately 3 million deaths worldwide. The worsening of these diseases may lead to acute respiratory failure, requiring respiratory humidifiers and heaters for support to avoid further complications and infections caused by unconditioned air. According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2015, heated humidifier therapy has shown to improve patient outcomes and reduce mortality rates compared to non-invasive ventilation and standard oxygen therapy. The launch of new products like Teleflex’s Hudson RCI Comfort Flo plus High Flow Nasal Cannula in October 2015 is expected to further increase the demand for respiratory air conditioning devices.

Regional Insights

The global respiratory air conditioning devices market is categorized into North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa based on geography. North America is anticipated to hold the largest market share in the respiratory air conditioning devices market, attributed to the high prevalence of respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD in the region. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated in April 2018 that 1 in 13 people in the U.S. suffer from asthma, which accounts for approximately 25 million people with asthma, 7.6% of whom are adults and 8.4% are children. The Asia Pacific region is expected to offer lucrative growth opportunities for the respiratory air conditioning devices market due to the increasing incidence of respiratory disorders caused by polluted air and unhygienic living conditions.

To expand their market presence and boost revenue, companies are forming agreements with healthcare providers to supply respiratory heaters. In December 2017, Teleflex Inc. signed a group purchasing agreement with HealthTrust, a supply chain organization for hospitals, to provide respiratory heaters and accessories to HealthTrust’s partner hospitals. The agreement covers a wide range of products, including active humidification, non-invasive ventilation, and high flow nasal cannula therapy, and is expected to benefit around 400 member hospitals in the United States.
