Electrical Stimulation Blood Pressure Treatment Devices Market Is Booming Worldwide 2023-2030 | BTL Industries, Inc., Medtronic plc.

February 16th, 2023 Coherent Market Insights Releases

Electrical stimulation technology (EST) has been used for a number of purposes, including the therapy of musculoskeletal disorder management, neurological and movement disorders, pain management, and metabolism and GIT. Products, still, are being developed to treat resistant hypertension. Despite notable improvements in medication therapy, hypertension is still a serious medical entity and major contributor to cardiovascular disease. Even alterations in lifestyle behaviors including loss of weight, fitness exercises, drinking less alcohol, and sodium restriction in the diet are insufficient. As a result, new methods and procedures for treating hypertension are needed.

The ROX coupler, baroreflex activation therapy, and renal denervation are just afew of the alternate treatment options. Afferent and efferent nerves are both destroyed using a catheter during renal denervation. Up until 2014, after one of the largest studies failed to achieve the principal end points, the technique appeared to have promise. But fresh studies using modified renal denervation catheter are being carried out by organisations like Medtronic and Boston Scietific. In contrast, an arteriovenous anastomosis operation is used to surgically implant the ROX coupler in the upper thigh between an artery and vein.

Baroreflex Activation Therapy

The Rheos Baroreflex Activation Therapy technology has been converted into the baroreflex activation therapy. Electrically stimulating baroreceptors or baroreflex afferent nerves depends on the theory that the brain detects the stimulus as blood pressure rises. Then, to counterbalance the apparent blood increase in pressure, baroreflex efferent structures are modified. The most well-known product in this group is the CVRx Barostim Neo system. The technology has been given the Expedited Access Pathway designation by the United States Food and drug administration, and the device has a CE Mark. The device is being looked into for use in heart failure.

This new electrical stimulation implant might make a useful drug-free therapeutic approach for those with high blood pressure. Using an implantable device will help people overcome their fear of adverse effects. Additionally, this technology has advantages including non-destructive and reversible treatment, 100% treatment adherence, and the ability to satisfy the needs of every patient.

Market Scenario

In accordance with the World Health Organization, low- and middle-income nations in Africa, South-East Asia and Latin America have the highest incidence of hypertension (WHO). The need for electrical stimulation devices for the high blood pressure treatment in these areas will also be largely driven by the ageing population, a big patient pool, and poor market penetration. Additionally, one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the the US is hypertension. Despite taking the recommended dosage of at least three antihypertensive medications, about 20% of hypertension patients in Canada still have blood pressure that is higher than normal. The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) believes that in order to properly identify individuals who might benefit from this technique, coordination amongst clinical disciplines will be required.

The effectiveness of the electrical stimulation blood pressure devices is being tested. The United States Food and Drug Administration have granted the Barostim Neo System a humanitarian device exemption for use in patients with hypertension. However, it can only be applied to patients who had bilateral earlier generation Rheos Carotid Sinus Leads implanted during clinical trials (since ended). The recent studies’ positive results will hasten the device’s commercialization over the next five years.

Key developments

1. Important players engage in a variety of commercial techniques, like attending international conferences and medical expos to promote their goods. For example, BTL Industries, Inc. actively participated in the second-largest medical equipment and service exhibition in the world, the 79th China International Medical Equipment Fair (CIMEF), held in Shanghai in April 2018.

2. In order to offer effective gadgets on the market, major market companies are active in obtaining permission for devices from regulatory bodies. For example, Medtronic plc reported in 2018 that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the start of an IDE pivotal study to assess the Symplicity Spyral (TM) renal denervation system in patients who have high blood pressure, or hypertension.
