Catheter Stabilization Devices Market | Rise in Number of Ambulatory Surgery Centers Drive the Growth

October 17th, 2022 TMR Releases

The global catheter stabilization devices market was valued at US$ 1.3 Bn in 2021 and it is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.5% from 2022 to 2031. The global catheter stabilization devices market is anticipated to reach US$ 2.6 Bn by the end of 2031.

Catheter Stabilization Devices Market Introduction

Catheter stabilization is used to secure an indwelling urinary catheter in order to prevent urethral trauma. It may help in minimizing the risk of complications caused due to the usage of an unsecured catheter. Types of catheter securement devices include peripheral securement devices, continuous nerve block catheter securement devices, arterial securement devices, chest drainage tube securement devices, epidural securement devices, and endotracheal tube catheter stabilization devices. These devices prevent accidental and unintentional urinary catheter extraction, thereby avoiding damage to the bladder.

Catheter stabilization devices have been grouped into three major categories: sutures, sutureless devices, and tapes and dressings. Sutures are widely employed for securing or stabilizing non-tunneled central vascular access devices. Modern sutureless stabilization/securement devices stabilize catheters to the skin by using an adhesive. They commonly rely on catheter hub suture wings as the key contact hold area. StatLock devices are the most commonly used sutureless catheter securement devices. These Foley stabilization devices lock the Foley catheter in place, thereby eliminating any chance of a sudden pull. Securement methods use design notches and reinforced non-woven backing when only a dressing is employed. This helps maximize the effectiveness of stabilization. However, the securement force applied is lower than that applied with dedicated rigid securement devices.

Rise in Adoption of Home-based Catheterization Augmenting Global Catheter Stabilization Devices Market Size

Increase in number of dialysis patients who prefer home treatment is boosting the demand for catheter stabilization devices for hemodialysis in home settings. According to a report by Fresenius Medical Care, 21% of patients in North America, 11% in Asia Pacific, and 12% in Latin America opted for home dialysis in 2015. Therefore, dialysis equipment manufacturers are developing self-dialyzing systems and services to support the usage of catheterization in home settings. Medical professionals are encouraging self-catheterization to reduce the cost and period of hospitalization, and avert the risk of HAIs.

Increase in Incidence of Chronic Diseases Driving Global Catheter Stabilization Devices Market

A large set of the global population is suffering from various types of chronic diseases such as cancer, stroke, diabetes, and abnormal heart rhythms. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 41 million people die due to chronic diseases annually. This is equivalent to 74% of all deaths worldwide. Patients with chronic diseases often require catheterization during treatment.

Increase in prevalence of lifestyle-associated diseases is fueling the global catheter stabilization devices market. Cardiovascular diseases and ischemic heart diseases are caused due to obesity, lack of physical inactivity, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, and tobacco smoking. Cardiovascular diseases along with ischemic heart diseases are the leading causes of death worldwide. As per the WHO, cardiovascular diseases account for the most deaths (17.9 million people) annually due to non-communicable diseases, followed by cancer (9.3 million), chronic respiratory diseases (4.1 million), and diabetes (2.0 million including kidney disease deaths caused by diabetes).

Growth in Adoption of CVC Stabilization Devices to Secure Central Venous Catheters

In terms of product type, the global catheter stabilization devices market has been classified into CVC stabilization devices, PICC stabilization devices, abdominal stabilization devices, chest drainage tube stabilization devices, and others. The CVC stabilization devices segment held major share of the market in 2021. CVC stabilization devices are used to secure Central Venous Catheters (CVCs) that allow for the administration of vasoactive medications and agents during the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The course of cardiovascular catheterization involves the inclusion of a catheter in a supply route or vein in a patient’s crotch or neck, clearing its path through veins to the heart.

Rise in Number of Ambulatory Surgery Centers Fueling Hospitals & ASCs Segment

Based on end-user, the global catheter stabilization devices market has been segmented into hospitals & ASCs, diagnostic centers & clinics, home care settings, and others. The hospitals & ASCs segment is expected to dominate the market during the forecast period, owing to the increase in number of ASCs in various countries.

Regional Outlook of Global Catheter Stabilization Devices Market

North America dominated the global catheter stabilization devices market in 2021. The market in the region is projected to grow at rapid CAGR from 2022 to 2031 due to the increase in incidence of chronic diseases and rise in geriatric population. Chronic kidney disease is common among adults in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2021 estimation, more than one in seven, i.e. 15% of adults, in the U.S. are likely to suffer from chronic kidney disease.

Europe is expected to account for the second-largest share of the market during the forecast period. Growth of the market can be ascribed to the increase in prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in the region. According to the European Chronic Disease Alliance, cardiovascular disease causes 3.9 million deaths in Europe and over 1.8 million deaths in the EU annually. Additionally, cardiovascular disease accounts for 45% of all deaths in Europe and 37% of all deaths in the EU. Germany held major share of the market in Europe in 2021, led by the increase in investments in R&D activities by manufacturers, rise in healthcare expenditure, and presence of emerging players in the country.
