Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a medical test that measures the magnetic fields produced by the brain’s electrical currents. It is performed to map brain function and to identify the exact location of the source of epileptic seizures. MEG is used to diagnose dementia, brain tumor, stroke, schizophrenia, and epilepsy, among others. MEG has proven to be an effective method for the diagnosis of epilepsy as MEG tests have high sensitivity to small neuronal population in the neocortical region. According to the report published in June 2017 by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, around 30% of epileptic patients responding to neurosurgical treatment require non-invasive brain imaging such as MEG.
