Ultrasound Devices Market Likely to Enjoy Explosive Growth by 2027 | GE Healthcare, Koninklijke Philips N.V., Toshiba Medical Corporation, Hitachi Medical Corporation

December 1st, 2021 Coherent Market Insights Releases

Continuous technical advancements and advances in ultrasound devices offer diagnostic imaging a new edge. Imaging is crucial in the detection of various diseases such as brain disease, bone disease, skeletal muscle disease, cardiovascular disease, cancers, kidney problems, and many others. Ultrasound is now used in a wide range of therapeutic areas, such as gastroenterology, surgery, and musculoskeletal medicine, in addition to radiology.

The global ultrasound devices market was worth US$ 6,230.1 Mn in 2019 and grow at a CAGR of 1.9 % during the forecast period 2020 and 2027.

Major players are focusing on creating cost-effective, user-friendly, and modern technology devices to offer greater diagnostic imaging results. For instance, Koninklijke Philips N.V. launched Philips Lumify hand-held ultrasound technology for cardiac patients in November 2019. Lumify is an integral part of the mobile extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) system, providing real-time visual assistance to the physician throughout the ECMO cannulation process.

ECMO machines have been offered in a few hospitals in the U.S. until recently. Furthermore, in collaboration with Albuquerque Fire and Rescue (AFR), the UNM Department of Emergency Medicine’s Divisions of Prehospital Care and Adult Critical Care launched the first mobile ECMO procedure in the U.S. The machine, which is installed in the rear of a customized ambulance, enables physicians to execute an ECMO surgery while on the go. In a pre-hospital scenario, such enhanced treatment might increase the chances of survival by around 30%. The ultrasound technology from Philips Lumify is an integral part of the mobile ECMO unit. Lumify is used by the members of the ECMO team to provide real-time visual guidance when placing tubes into arteries and veins, a procedure known as ECMO cannulation.

The increased release of novel and modern technology ultrasound device solutions is expected to drive the global ultrasound devices market growth over the forecast period. For instance, JW Medical, a subsidiary of JW Holdings in 2019 commercialized the ARIETTA 65, an ultrasonic imaging device made by Hitachi Medical Systems, a medical device company. This device was intended to be a premium model in the ultrasound device segment, according to the company. The elastography function in ARIETTA 65 allows for automated frame selection and assesses the lesion elasticity in comparison to adipose tissue.

GE Healthcare introduced Versana Essential, a new ultrasound system, in 2018. This system was developed to provide a variety of physicians with improved capabilities, making it simpler to diagnose and treat eventually important problems rapidly.

Furthermore, ultrasound devices’ consistency remains a key drawback, as operator variation results in various measurements for the same anatomy.

Ultrasound Devices Market – Regional Insights

The global ultrasound devices market is divided into the Asia Pacific, Latin America, Africa, Europe, North America, and the Middle East based on region.

North America is expected to account for the largest share in the global ultrasound devices market, due to an increase in the number of pregnancies, which is expected to drive the global ultrasound devices market growth during the forecast period. One of the key causes driving demand for ultrasound equipment is the increasing number of childbirths each year since ultrasound imaging is used to monitor the growth of the baby in the womb. The total number of births in the United States in 2016 was around 3,978,497, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The birth rate in the U.S. was around 12.4 for every 1,000 people, therefore obstetrics and gynecology accounted for a large share of the global ultrasound devices market.

Global Ultrasound Devices Market – Competitive Landscape

Some of the key players contributing to the global ultrasound devices market are Fujifilm Corporation, Esaote S.p.A., Toshiba Medical Corporation, Samsung Medison Co. Ltd., Koninklijke Philips N.V., Siemens Healthcare, GE Healthcare, Analogic Corporation, Hitachi Medical Corporation.
