Voice Prosthesis Device Market 2021 Strong Development By Major Eminent Players, Research Analysis and Forecasts to 2028 | Atos Medical AB, InHealth Technologies

October 19th, 2021 Coherent Market Insights Releases

Overview

When a laryngectomized patient’s larynx is surgically removed, a speech prosthesis unit is used in combination with voice therapy to help them talk. This software is made of silicon and offers patients decent voice quality as well as ease of device maintenance. Patients that have had their speech prosthesis installed don’t have to expend too much effort when communicating. Additionally, it enables pulmonary air to flow through the oesophagus and pharynx thereby, preventing food (saliva) from entering the trachea. With the aid of the guide wire, the speech prosthesis may be inserted in one of two ways: through the throat or through the lips. The global voice prosthesis device market is dominated by a number of manufacturers. For patients who have had their larynx surgically removed, Atos Medical sells the Provox speech prosthesis.

Drivers

During the forecast period, the rising incidences of laryngeal cancer is expected to propel growth of the global voice prosthesis devices market. Furthermore, ear pressure is one of the comorbidities of laryngeal cancer. In 2019, about 12,410 people in the U.S. were diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, as per the ASC (American Cancer Society).

Furthermore, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), about 7.5 million individuals in the U.S. have issues with speech output through the voice box in 2019. Additionally, individuals between the ages of 30 and 50 years old are more likely than males to have voice box spasms (spasmodic dysphonia). Hence, the number of patients with laryngeal cancer, as well as the prevalence of voice generation problems, are expected to propel growth of the global voice prosthesis market during the forecast period.

The companies that operate in the global voice prosthesis devices market are concentrating on acquisitions, which is expected to fuel growth of the market. In 2018, Atos Medical AB purchased Heimomed Heinze GmbH & Co. KG’s high-quality tracheostomy devices. Atos Medical AB was able to extend its product range in Germany and Australia as a result of this purchase. During the forecast period, these dynamics are expected to propel growth of the global voice prosthesis devices market.

Restraints

One of the key reasons projected to restrict the growth of the global voice prosthesis devices market is the high cost of these devices. Long-term devices such as the Blom-Singer indwelling prosthesis, manufactured by Singer and Blom, costs US$80, while the Provox2 prosthesis, manufactured by Atos medical, costs US$182.

The limited life span of voice prosthesis products, on the other hand, is another factor that is expected to restrain the growth of the global voice prosthesis device market during the forecast period. As per the NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information), separate 3,648 speech prosthesis devices (VP) were implanted in 390 patients in the U.S. in 2017, with over two-thirds of prostheses being discarded due to leakage and the remainder were removed for other purposes. Furthermore, the device’s life expectancy was 61 days for both prostheses. The demand for the global voice prosthesis devices market is projected to decline as a result of this factor.

Regional Analysis

Due to the presence of key players such as InHealth Technologies in the region, North America is estimated to account for the largest market share in the global voice prosthesis devices market. Furthermore, the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) announced in 2018 that medical devices, including ENT surgical devices, are more effective and reliable for patients. Hence, the availability of voice prosthesis as a healthy option for patients is expected to increase demand for the technology.

Owing to the introduction of new cheaper voice prosthesis products that are priced as low as US$1, such as the Aum system, which is manufactured by India-based Innaumation Medical Devices, Asia Pacific is projected to grow at a rapid pace during the forecast period.

Key Players

Major companies contributing in the global voice prosthesis devices market are Teleflex Incorporated, Servona GmbH, Atos Medical AB, Hood Laboratories, Smiths Medical, Inc., InHealth Technologies, Andreas Fahl Medizintechnik Vertrieb GmbH, and HEIMOMED Heinze GmbH & Co. KG.
