Bionic Ear Market 2021: Competitive Landscape and Industry Poised for Rapid Growth 2031

September 20th, 2021 INSIGHTSLICE Releases

The traditional hearing aid devices work by amplifying the surround sound, and cancelling the noise captured, but those are only useful for people with partial hearing loss, and not for the people who are tone deaf or have profoundly impaired hearing. Hearing loss is associated with the damage done to the, or other abnormalities associated with, the tiny censor hair cells present inside the cochlea or inner ear. Bionic ears are used to overcome such severe conditions.

A bionic ear is basically an electronic device designed to produce hearing sensation by electrically stimulating nerves in the inner ear of deaf patients. It consists of a receiver implanted below the patient’s ear, along with a sound processor. These processors perform the task of stimulating the inner ear’s nerves, which send signals to the brain where these signal are interpreted as sound. Bionic ear is beneficial to the people suffering from severe or total loss of hearing.

This piece of electronic device is one that allows people with severe loss of hearing to recognise some sounds, especially the sounds related to speech, and they consist of a microphone and a receiver set, a processor that converts speech to electronic signals, and an array of electrodes that transmit the signals to the cochlear nerve in the inner ear of the patient fitted with this device.

The geriatric population has been increasingly suffering from hearing disorders, which has acted as the primary reason for the growth of the Bionic Ears market. Apart from this, the incidence of hearing deficiency is rising among the newborn children. The increasing awareness among the population, especially the parents of newborn babies, is acting as a stimulus for the growth of the market. A fear of malfunction of these devices and high cost associated can be the possible factors that could restrict the growth of bionic ears market.

Hearing disabilities among newborn babies is a matter of grave concern. Bionic ears can treat such disabilities. The rise in the awareness about this issue, among the parents of these newborn children, and due to the widespread availability of the more advanced infrastructures today, for the diagnostics of these hearing disabilities among newborn children, are the key driving factors of the bionic ears market.

Students to benefit from the usage of Bionic Ears:

According to CDC, hearing plays a key role in the academic development of students, with factors like speech, communication, and development language skills. Moreover, even a small amount of hearing loss can lead to loss of opportunities for personal development, job opportunities, and learning. Hence, loss of hearing has had a profound impact on students in the various departments of like social development, language, speech patterns. CDC also reports that students with hearing difficulties do not perform as well in schools, without intervention.

Furthermore, the gap in scholastic achievement in schools, also widens as student progress beyond school. Based on CDC numbers, over 98% of new-borns in the US are screened for hearing loss. Moreover, in 2017, 6500 were identified early with a permanent hearing loss. However, the hearing loss remains more widespread, with the rate of hearing loss, remains 1.7% per 1000 babies. Furthermore, many infants did not receive early intervention measures, and additional testing. The growth of testing newborn babies, the rising number of interventions, and the growing demand for education will drive major growth for the players in the bionic ears market.

The cochlear implant market dominates the Device type segment of the Bionic Ear Market:

Based on the device type segment, the global bionic ear market consists of cochlear implants and bone anchored hearing aids. The cochlear implant market dominated the Device Type segment, and holds the largest market share currently. Cochlear implants are found to be more effective than traditional devices.

These devices enhance the quality of the sound, thereby improving the patient’s ability to better understand speech. It helps to recognise the relevant speech even in a noisy environment and is considered safe for even children to use it.

Hospitals hold the largest market share dominated of the End User segment of the Bionic Ear Market:

Based on the end-user segment, the global bionic ear market is categorised into hospitals, research institutes, and hearing clinics. The hospital segment leads the market segment, and is expected to hold its leading position throughout the forecast period.

This is primarily because hospitals provide better treatment and have more skilled medical staff, which attracts more number of patients. Apart from this, the clinics that aid with hearing ailments, are expected to grow at a significant rate in the next few years, owing to the specialised treatment and advancement of the care facilities, and the constant activities related to the research and development.

North America leads in the region segment of the Bionic Ear Market:

North America currently accounts for a significant market share, which is enough to help it be the leading market in the region segment. The North American region has a high population of geriatric population who suffer from hearing disabilities, which has provided a boost to the bionic ear market. Apart from this, the established medical infrastructure and the increasing widespread awareness, have accelerated the growth of the market.

This being said, the region of Asia-Pacific is expected to see the highest growth rate during the forecast period. The developing economies of India, Japan and especially China, have a growing population of elderly patients who face difficulty in hearing. Also, the medical infrastructures in these countries are advancing, which has resulted in a surge in the market growth.
