HGH is increasingly popular in recent years especially if you are “diligent” in following the news of Hollywood celebrities. Some of them undergo regular HGH therapy to get the physical appearance as young as possible. But what is HGH?
Growth hormone (HGH, for its acronym in English, Human Growth Hormone) rejuvenates: increases muscle mass, increases bone density, pushes, thickens the dermis and increases libido. In short, this is a coral reef for anti-aging consultations.
This is also very beneficial for the producers: the sale of the synthesized protein produces around 2,000 million dollars per year. Not bad for a substance that should be provided for patients who do not produce it in sufficient quantities. Its use as an anti-aging therapy is not permitted in some countries.
Here it is given to people with low levels or in cases such as Turner syndrome (women with incomplete chromosomes), Prader-Willi syndrome (caused by a lack of genes on chromosome 15) or in children with chronic kidney failure before puberty. In our country its use is friendly, prescribed by endocrinologists and pediatricians and can only be distributed in hospitals and pharmacies.
Development
The Genentech Laboratory developed a biosynthetic version of HGH, which was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1985. This protein, produced by the pituitary gland, stimulates the growth of most organisms: cells, bones, muscles … Weakness, at an early age, shrinks: this protein does not allow it to reach the target size (or possibly high according to genetic inheritance) and can be translated into dwarfism. As we get older, the production of HGH slows down. Braking occurred at 20 years, when it was triggered by a 4% decline per year. At the age of 30 and 50 years, it may have been reduced by 40%.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the body that regulates food and medicine in the United States, is far more lax. If an adult shows signs of fatigue, weakness and low libido, among other symptoms, the doctor prescribes it after a urine test and analytic test. This is the safest hormone treatment available. HGH for men is very popular among Americans.
Doubtful reputation
The media have focused their consumption only on famous actors or singers and have provided exclusive connotations related to the forbidden. A person may feel more charismatic or energetic to inject it, but from there feel ten years younger or stop graying.
Detractors and defenders
HGH has detractors and defenders, especially, because not all research has reaped positive results. A meta-analysis of several studies published in 2007 confirmed advantages such as fat reduction and increased muscle mass, but also a greater tendency for the development of diabetes and cancer.
Its use dates back to the late fifties. Then it is limited and is provided for the most extreme cases in children. The FDA wrote a new chapter in 1985 when it approved a biosynthetic version prepared by Genentech, a San Francisco company. The results are very encouraging: an average patient under 13 years grows around five centimeters. Panacea? At a glance, yes. Side effects are limited to joint discomfort and swelling. But in the long run, the story gets complicated: some researchers have shown that there is an increased risk of heart failure and other diseases.
