ResMed, one of the leaders in continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) technology, is releasing in the U.S. its first top-of-head CPAP mask. The AirFit N30i provides a different option than the more common design of having the air tube extend from around the face like an elephant’s trunk.
The top-of-head design would seem particularly attractive to people that sleep on their stomach and side, as the tube does not interfere as much. A cushion under the nose on the new mask helps to minimize irritation of the nasal area, which may be a problem when lying prone and the face in direct contact with the pillow.
The AirFit N30i is available in two frames and with four different cushion sizes, allowing most people’s faces to fit snugly inside the mask.
“AirFit N30i is a great choice for nasal mask wearers who move when they sleep,” in a statement said Jim Hollingshead, president of ResMed’s Sleep business. “It’s all about freedom – users are free to sleep however they want and enjoy a comfortable, reliable seal. And AirFit N30i is so easy to fit, sleep professionals are going to be freed up to serve more people.”
