Marsden, a UK firm specializing in manufacturing all kinds of weighing scales, is releasing a Patient Transfer Scale that serves two purposes in a single device. As immobile patients need to be transferred to a scale to weigh them anyways, a British nurse realized that a lot of effort can be spared if the transfer device itself contains a built-in scale.
Weighing immobile patients can be important in many cases, particularly when prescribing medications, deciding on treatment options, and monitoring fluid balance and general health over time.
The Patient Transfer Scale should be particularly useful in the ER, allowing staff to effectively skip a difficult and time consuming step of weighing patients, a required step during admission in Great Britain.
Prototypes of the new device have already been tested in 30 different hospitals, which led to the final design that is being made available.
