Blink Device Company, out of Seattle, Washington, landed the CE Mark in Europe, allowing it to introduce its TwitchView neuromuscular blockade monitor. The system quantifies the depth of a neuromuscular blockade under anesthesia using electromyography (EMG).
The system includes a monitor, charging dock, and single use electrode arrays. The arrays can be placed on either hand in seconds and a press of a button begins “train-of-four” monitoring. The data collected and produced by the device is easily transferred directly into the hospital’s electronic medical record.
“At Blink Device Company, we aim to identify areas in medicine that can greatly benefit from technological innovation,” in a statement said CEO Justin Hulvershorn, M.D, Ph.D. “Neuromuscular blockade is ripe for such an advance. A typical response from clinicians who have used TwitchView is that it is like ‘turning on the lights in a dark room’. With remarkable ease-of-use, updating practices to benefit both practitioners and their patients is nearly effortless.”
