Indwelling urinary catheterisation is one of the common procedures for inpatients, and as it’s widespread its associated complications are common as well. Most known is UTI, which related to the insertion of the catheter into the body, but genitourinary trauma affects patients as well. Since the foley catheter is anchored to the patient’s body by the retention balloon, any accidental or unintended pulling may cause severe damage to the bladder or urethra.
Foleysafe by Cathetrix is a catheter securement device which upon pulling severs the catheter, causing the retention balloon to deflate and thus preventing any trauma to the patient. The product gained a granted patent and is now in production. It has also received US FDA and EU CE Mark clearances.
The device was developed and designed by Product Plus, an Industrial design agency based in Germany and Israel, and produced by 3BY, Israel.
