Medtronic is introducing a new infusion set that addresses some of the challenges of using current products, including the fear of the needle. Many diabetics have to take insulin infusions, which can be unpleasant and difficult for individuals to perform on themselves.
The new Medtronic MiniMed Mio Advance can be operated with one hand and is designed so that the patient never sees its needle. Since it only requires a button press to operate and has a shape that can be grasped from different angles, it’s easy to access areas of the body that would otherwise be awkward to infuse through, such as the back.
The device requires fewer steps to prepare than many competing devices, making it easier on clinicians to explain how to use it and for patients to get started. Moreover, an automated needle driver guarantees consistent pressure with every injection, alleviating the patient from screwing up the process.
