Kinsa is releasing a new digital smartphone-connected thermometer, the Kinsa QuickCare. It’s modeled on the original Kinsa thermometer that uploaded its readings to a smartphone via the headphone jack. This was a cheap and easy solution that let the company keep the price of the device very low. But, Apple choosing to get rid of the headphone jack on its latest iPhones altogether, a controversial move, forced Kinsa to include Bluetooth connectivity in its latest compact thermometer.
The device can be used stand-alone, since it has a display of its own. But being able to automatically transfer readings to a phone allows for close tracking of temperature of a child or adult.
It’s only $20 a pop (available on Amazon), which is only $5 more than the plugin version that was approved four years ago.
