ScandiDos, a firm out of Uppsala, Sweden, has begun installing its Delta4 Discover transmission detector in the U.S. with the first site at the The University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. The devices measures the amount of radiation delivered to a patient from an accelerator. It’s designed, and approved, for use on Varian’s TrueBeam and Clinac iX radiotherapy systems. The device attaches over the beam’s exit chamber and doesn’t add much to the radiotherapy system’s overall size.
The Delta4 Discover can help make sure that the patient receives the correct amount and coverage of the radiation into the body, helping to confirm planning and optimizing treatment. It also checks the multileaf collimator location, as well as its angle and patient position in reference to each other.
Some of the applications that come included with the Delta4 Discover:
- VMAT and IMRT
- FFF
- 3D Conformal
- Hypofractionation
- 4D Treatments
- SRS/SBRT cases with non-coplanar beams
