Vaica Medical, a company out of Tel Aviv, Israel, is releasing a product designed to help introduce patients to new types of medications, such as injections and atomized drugs, or to complicated pill regimens. The cigar box-like device, called Capsuled, holds patient medications, like injectors and inhalators, and a touchscreen display provides a place to view detailed instructions on how to take the drugs. The Capsuled monitors every time it’s been accessed, and can send reminders and notifications if it’s not used according to a prescribed plan.
The first use of the technology will be in two clinical trials in Italy that will involve people with diabetes, cardiac diseases, and COPD. These populations are particularly large and prone to resist following prescription guidelines. Researchers will be able to monitor drug usage by the patients remotely, simplifying data management and providing detailed insights on drug intake.
“The Capsuled is a unique patient adherence product targeted specifically for the pharmaceutical industry. It offers an improved solution, based on our validated, FDA and CE approved technology,” in a statement said Tomer Gofer, CEO of Vaica. “Vaica’s mission is to improve patients’ lives through its customized medication adherence solutions. At the core of our technology is cloud-based software, enabling remote management of smart medication dispensers. This offers real time patient engagement, resulting in higher adherence levels, better patient outcomes and enhanced support.”
