This week and next at the American College of Gastroenterology’s World Congress of Gastroenterology conference in Orlando, Olympus is unveiling its SB Knives. The devices are designed to be used for endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), a procedure that was defined as unique from endoscopic mucosal resection only about fifteen years ago.
The three-in-one SB Knives can be used for mucosal incision, submucosal dissection, and hemostasis when removing early GI cancers that have not yet penetrated into the muscle. In many cases such procedures can help patients avoid open surgeries, as long as the cancers are identified early and treatment is administered as soon as possible.
“With each device we unveil to the GI community, Olympus gains strength as being more than an excellent imaging partner; we evolve into a complete solutions provider to our customers,” said Kurt Heine Group Vice President, Endoscopy Division at Olympus America Inc, in a published statement. “Strategic partnerships, a commitment to innovation and a drive to provide methods to raise quality and satisfaction while lowering costs – these are ways we build trust with our customers every day.”
