At Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, California, kids will now be driving themselves to the operating room. The hospital now has a fleet of ride-on mini cars that kids are much more excited to drive rather than being taken to OR on a wheeled bed. The electric cars are actually operated by an adult using a remote control. The kids simply get in and, being children, pretend that they are in charge of the vehicle. There’s a stereo built-in, so the kids can select the tunes they prefer while they navigate through the hospital. Not a bad deal for the kids, and certainly should help at reducing any anxieties they experience before a surgery.
