The surgery is common in other parts of the world but Mr. Russo would be the first patient on whom the surgery would be performed in Western New York. This surgery was unknown to many people owing to high price of the robot. For instance, one of the machines of small size costs about a million dollars. However, Mr. Russo approved for the surgery. Dr. Leone explained the surgery procedure in which, a tube and a small three centimeters helps to perform the surgery. The doctors are able to relax nerves and extend the bones and do everything with the help of this incision.

The surgery is synchronized with a program called computer mapping and then spine of the person is scanned through computed tomography (CT) scan. The health specialists have reported that the time taken by the invasive surgery is same as traditional spine surgery. According to them, the surgical robots are more advantageous than the traditional surgery. The robot is capable to conduct surgery on its own, but doctors are required for small parts, such as smaller cuts. The surgical robots cause less blood loss, fast recovery, less pain, and decreased use of opioids.
Mr. Russo was able to stand just after one day of the surgery. He was completely off the medicines for pain after few days of operation. He said that his legs felt normal and had complete comfort. According to him, the surgery gave him his life back.
New technology is introduced in hospitals of the U.S. An arm of the surgical robotic which belongs to its third generation has been introduced in Idaho on February 2017. The robotic arm is called “The Mazor X surgical robotic arm”, which is used in the hospitals of 18 countries. Presently, it is applied by eight hospitals of the U.S. This effective technology is developed for the treatment of scoliosis.
