Tryton Medical out of Durham, North Carolina won FDA approval for its Tryton Side Branch Stent. The innovative device is designed to be placed into a side branch artery while allowing a traditional drug eluting stent to be placed into the branch’s main artery, thereby treating the entire lesion at the bifurcation.
The Tryton Side Branch Stent is positioned first, spanning the bifurcation and into the side branch. The structure of the stent is designed to permit another delivery mechanism to slide through its struts and into the main branch, placing the larger stent partially within and partially outside the side branch stent. The two stents together provide complete coverage of the bifurcation, keeping it open without relying on potentially more complicated endoprostheses.
