Lancaster (UK) based Cardiocity Limited have developed their second variant of the RhythmPad product range to successfully screen from Hypertension through simple hand placement. The RhythmPad2 system is a USB and Bluetooth connected CE certified Class2a medical device allowing simple integration into a number of EHR systems.
The system has been integrated into both kiosk and portable form factors and typically works connected to a Windows PC. Over 30 of the kiosks have been deployed across NHS England in family doctor clinics and have screened over 40,000 people to date with 119 patients newly diagnosed as suffering from Atrial Fibrillation in the last 90 days alone. This represents, according to the UK National Audit Office, a cost saving to the NHS of over £3,310,924.
Cardiocity’s founder Chris Crockford commented “Our RhythmPad Kiosks are demonstrating that even when used unattended, without clinical staff present, we are finding the right population of people who are walking around with previously undiagnosed Atrial Fibrillation.”
The second variant RhythmPad2 system also provides fingertip sensing of Blood Pressure. Crockford continues “We have been developing the second generation system for some time now. The RhythmPad2 incorporates our unique sensing technology and allows us to determine peoples’ Blood Pressure from both hands and to identify those who are hypertensive during our standard 30 second screening sessions. The data from the RhythmPad2 sets us apart from the field as we are now able to screen for Blood Pressure from both hands, enabling us to gain a unique insight into the subjects vascular system either side of their heart.”
The RhythmPad Kiosk systems will soon be upgraded to provide full autonomous Cardio Vascular screening with automatic analysis and output being incorporated into the patient EHR.
The company are currently preparing for fundraising for commercial expansion.
