Fortimedix Surgical, a Dutch firm, just announced that it’s bringing to the U.S. its symphonX, a laparoscopic surgical system that fits through one standard 15 mm trocar.
It mimics the ergonomics of standard laparoscopic instruments that normally use dedicated ports, allowing seasoned surgeons to quickly pick up on using the new system. Because the inserted tools are able to come apart near the trocar and come together at their tips, the symphonX allows for easy interaction within the surgical field.
The advantages of the system include fewer port related complications, better post-op aesthetics, and easier recovery for the patients. It has two 5mm access lumens for the tools, one for the scope, and one for a suction/irrigation.
Following the U.S. rollout, Fortimedix is planning on a European launch of the symphonX system next year.
