Colorado Therapeutics, a company out of Broomfield, CO, won FDA clearance to introduce its xenogenic biologic tissue matrix. The xenograft implant can be used to surgically reinforce soft tissues and to repair soft tissue membranes that have been compromised. Hernia repairs will probably be the most common application for this material, but its scope of application is much wider. The Colibri heart valve, for example, already relies on the same technology.
What’s particularly novel and interesting about Colorado Therapeutics’ xenograft is that it comes packaged dry and ready to go. It does not require any preparation or rehydration, and can be used immediately once removed from its container.
More from the company’s technology info page:
Colorado Therapeutics product utilizes cross-linked xenogenic pericardium and dermis which provides the strength and durability of synthetics with revascularization properties of non-cross-linked biologic products. The Company believes that the unique benefits of this product will be well suited for bridging hernia defects and in applications where current xenograft products are indicated. The Company’s proprietarily cross-linked pericardial product provides a dense connective tissue product that promotes remodeling, angiogenesis (capillaries), and biological compatibility while resisting post-operative bulging with maintained strength and durability.
