The image on the left from a non-weight-bearing exam fails to provide a clear view of bone impingement revealed in the OnSight weight-bearing exam on the right.
Carestream won FDA clearance for its OnSight 3D Extremity System, a cone beam CT for imaging the arms and legs at the point of care. The device has a swinging door that lets the patient easily step in without, an important aspect since many people imaged by this system will have walking issues. It can be used to perform weigh-bearing and non-weight-bearing studies while delivering a lower dose of radiation compared to large conventional CT scanners.
The test and review of the scan can be performed quickly in the same office, with the patient even seeing the 3D scan that can help explain what the problem is.
It’s intended for use by orthopedic and sports medicine clinics, as well as hospitals, urgent care, and imaging centers.
