Compliance testing can be an important part of an alcohol rehab program. There are many alcohol breathalyzers on the market, but they generally require a trusted individual to perform the test to prevent forging of the results.
The Soberlink is cellular-connected breathalyzer we reviewed early last year that takes a photo of the user and sends it along with the alcohol reading and a GPS location to a rehab center. A face recognition system is used to automatically identify the user by comparing the photo to a few taken at the beginning of the therapy period. It has so far been used to enforce probation sentences and for family courts, but now it’s been cleared by the FDA for medical applications.
The Soberlink is completely portable, and as long as you’re within Verizon’s cellular network you can send in your readings at any time.
