Esco Medical, a Danish firm, won FDA clearance for its Miri Time-Lapse (TL) embryo incubator that features a built-in gas mixer and a microscope and camera combo. The Miri TL constantly watches embryos developing within, recording their progress without potentially harmful transfers to a stand-alone microscopy system. The device can incubate 84 embryos simultaneously in six separate compartments, each of which can be individually temperature controlled. The chambers are completely independent, so opening one will not at all affect the others. There’s also a pretty impressive air cleansing system that uses a HEPA+VOC filtration combined with microbe-killing UV light.
The captured images can be reviewed at any time without disturbing the embryos using the accompanying Miri TL Viewer Software. The application has automatic cleavage detection, annotation, and comparison tools to make selecting the most viable embryos more confidently.
