2breathe, an Israeli company, is unveiling its new smartphone-powered system that will supposedly help you fall asleep by monitoring and pacing your breathing. The idea for the technology derives from a product called RESPeRATE, an FDA-cleared device that helps to lower blood pressure by guiding pepole’s inhales and exhales. A good number of people that have used RESPeRATE have reported falling asleep as a side effect, so 2breathe harnesses the effect to help induce sleep.
The 2breathe includes a sensor that’s worn over the clothing as you sleep which interfaces with your smartphone over a Bluetooth wireless connection. An app on the phone recognizes your breathing rate and once calibrated produces rhythmic sounds that help you set a breathing rate that will supposedly calm the nerves and get the body interested in passing out.
