Potrero Medical, a San Francisco firm, landed FDA clearance for its Accuryn monitor that uses a sensor-equipped catheter to provide real time data on patient urine output, intra-abdominal pressure, and temperature. Filtering the intra-abdominal pressure data can provide the patient’s heart rate, respiratory rate, and relative stroke volume.
The system features automatic clearing of the drain line to prevent backups and the associated catheter-borne urinary tract infections, as well as reduce the workload on nurses.
The device also connects to in-hospital electronic medical records systems to store data on every patient.
Some of the features according to the product page:
- Urimeter with proprietary airlock-prevention technology overcomes urine drainage issues and provides accurate, real-time continuous urine output measurement
- Designed to decrease urinary retention and suction trauma – known risk factors for Catheter associated urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI)
- EMR Integration, improves system-wide access to trending data, or can be used as a stand-alone critical care monitor outside the ICU
- Machine-learning algorithms continuously monitor and trend measurements, enabling potential early detection of sepsis, acute kidney injury & cardiac difficulty.
