Intuity Medical, a company based in Sunnyvale, California, won FDA clearance to introduce its POGO Automatic glucose monitoring system in the U.S. This is really the first all-in-one system that unites finger pricking, blood collection, and testing into a single device. Simply turn on the device using the power button and place your finger over the opening below the button. The device then performs a quick lancing procedure and takes a sample of the blood. Within about four seconds the results appear on the screen.
Within the device there’s a cartridge that integrates ten test strips and once those are used up, you simply dispose of the old and insert a new cartridge.
There’s no separate lance to accidentally get poked by or test strips to lose. The POGO Automatic can even be used one handed and doesn’t require much dexterity, nor is there a learning curve to overcome.
