Progressive Updates on Cyclic Olefin Polymers (COP) provided by Zeon Chemicals this April at Pre-Filled Syringes East Coast 2016!
SMi Group are delighted to have Toshiro Katayama, Senior Product Manager from the New Business Development Division at Zeon Chemicals, present a case study on innovative progress with Cyclic Olefin Polymers (COP) next month at SMi’s 3rd annual conference and exhibition: Pre-Filled Syringes East Coast 2016, taking place on 25th and 26th April in Iselin, New Jersey.
In the run-up to his address, which will compare key properties and leachable data of COP syringes versus glass, SMi Group spoke to him about future developments in the PFS market. Toshiro Katayama said:
“The market is shifting towards a ‘point of care’, user-centric device design approach. The rise of new, expensive biologics drugs are best suited to be delivered by PFS, which can provide accurate and safe dosage. Human factors (HF) will also be playing a pivotal role for differentiation and there is a stronger need for flexibility in device design….We believe glass-based syringe will have limitations on this, and we are hopeful that COP can contribute to the future growth of pre-filled device.”
On his upcoming presentation he commented:
“We have also identified that the glass could show dissemination of Alkali metal ions over period, impacting on pH shift of diluent. To demonstrate the safety in the use of COP, our team has also recently conducted an additional E&L study which will be included in my presentation at the East Coast conference, hoping to bring to the attention of attendees.”
“This data will provide reassurance to the industry why COP-based syringe can be compliant, cost-effective and can offer a competitive advantage for device development.”
