Titan Medical, a Toronto, Canada firm, has unveiled its SPORT (Single Port Orifice Robotic Technology) surgical robot, or at least the preview model before the first-in-human use devices are manufactured later this year. The device is similar to the da Vinci system from Intuitive Surgical in that it provides 3D visualization and intuitive finger controls, but is not slated to be its direct competitor.
The company believes it can offer robotic technology at a much reduced price compared to existing systems, though it is only intended for use via the body’s natural orifices.
The company unveiled a few photos from an event where the system was unveiled in New York City.
