Samsung is slowly expanding its portfolio of healthcare products, and at the RSNA conference in Chicago, the company is introducing its NExCT 7 CT scanner. The system is basically a stationary and more advanced version of the mobile BodyTom CT scanner, a device developed by NeuroLogica. NeuroLogica is a company specialising in portable CT solutions which has subsequently become a subsidiary of Samsung, giving Samsung a head-start in the imaging business.
Not many details are available yet, but according to the FDA approval notes the NExCT 7 system has a detector coverage of 80 mm and a speed of 0.25s per rotation. The scanner features 128 detector rows, a 78 cm aperture, and a 50cm field of view. Except for the number of detector rows, these specs mean the system’s imaging capabilities are roughly on par with the Toshiba Aquilion ONE Vision CT.
