In the pediatric population, nitric oxide (NO) is often used to reduce pulmonary vascular resistance in term and near-term neonates with hypoxic respiratory failure. Such patients often present with varying issues that require magnetic resonance imaging, which normally means going off NO while the child is taken in for a scan.
Mallinckrodt out of Dublin, Ireland now received pediatric indication and FDA clearance for its INOmax DSIR Plus MRI device which allows for delivery of nitric oxide on the way to and from, and while inside the MRI scanner.
It’s to be used with MR compatible ventilators that are indicated to work alongside the INOmax DSIR Plus MRI device. Scanning while using the system can be done within MRI machines up to 3 Tesla and where the field strength is up to 100 gauss.
The system is essentially the same as previously available INOmax DSIR system, but the cart parts, the INOmax delivery cable and tubing, the gas sampling tubing, as well as the software, were updated to work properly and safely near an MRI machine.
