Reflexion Health, a company out of San Diego, CA, received FDA clearance for its Microsoft Kinect-powered exercise game to be marketed as a rehabilitation medical device. The Vera is a prescribable video game that tracks the user’s body motion using the Kinect 3D camera and uses a virtual coach to guide the user to correctly perform all the rehab routines.
As the game tracks the user, it records the progress and adherence of the patient to the prescribed routines. Different treatments can be prescribed depending on the needs of each patient and videos along with other materials can be used to prepare the patient for the regimen. Essentially it’s designed to be a virtual rehab specialist that’s guided by a human professional that you can bring home and work with through the living room TV.
