Philips is launching in the U.S. its new Lumify ultraportable smartphone or tablet powered ultrasound system. The system includes a couple of transducers (sold separately) that plug directly into the USB port of a compatible smartphone or tablet. The matching Lumify app running on the mobile device is then used to select and adjust various settings and to perform the exam.
The system lets the clinician select the preferred size and features of the mobile device, using its power to interact with the transducer and visualize the exam.
The Lumify works on a subscription model and through the app new transducers can be purchased, as well as various subscription types, training, and services, starting at $199 a month.
The app can be used to share exams with other clinicians, to make notations, and to email scans to others.
It comes with either the C5-2 broadband curved array transducer or the L12-4 broadband linear array transducer, at 5 to 2 MHz and 12 to 4 MHz extended operating frequency range, respectively.
