Advanced Circulatory, a division of ZOLL Medical, having received premarket approval from the FDA in March, is now releasing its ResQCPR system to the U.S. market. The system consists of the ResQPOD Impedance Threshold Device and the ResQPUMP Active Compression-Decompression device. The ResQPUMP delivers optimal chest compressions on every stroke, and actually pulls on the chest to lift it after each compression, maximizing effectiveness. The ResQPOD in the meantime, used by another person, delivers proper amounts of air to oxygenate blood passing through the lungs. This should help increase survival while reducing neurological damage in patients that make it.
In both animal and clinical studies, the ResQPCR system has shown considerably higher volumes of blood reaching the brain and the heart, and successful survival without neurological damage was increased by 25% compared to traditional CPR.
