Back in January we reported about Prima-Temp, a company out of Boulder, Colorado, that developed an intra-vaginal ring as a fertility sensor. The ring measures the core body temperature and sends the data wirelessly to a paired smartphone for monitoring and interpretation.
The company has now announced that it is raising money on IndieGoGo to further bring its technology to the market. Lauren Costantini, the company CEO, tells Medgadget, “We are launching the product under the beautiful name Priya, which means ‘beloved’ in Sanskrit.”
More about the product according to Prima-Temp:
The innovative technology behind Priya has been in development for 5 years, and proven safe as an FDA-regulated product. We have completed all the testing required to ensure a safe product for you.
• EFFORTLESS – With Priya, no one even knows you’re wearing the discrete sensor. Go about doing the things you enjoy – even sleep in on a Saturday instead of waking up early to take your temperature! No need to input information every day into an app – Priya does the work for you.
• DISCREET – We created Priya by combining temperature sensing into a self inserted vaginal cervical ring. Yes, that’s right – it goes inside! Intravaginal cervical rings have been used to deliver hormones to hundreds of thousands of women for decades. We thought, “what if we took the hormones out of this safe, comfortable ring and inserted a thermometer?”
• PRECISE – Priya is so precise because the magic is on the inside. Priya gathers serious temperature intel and transfers this data to your smart phone. By allowing this kind of information to be gathered without disruption, we can identify that subtle dip in circadian rhythm that happens two days before traditional methods are able to identify ovulation. Priya collects data every 6 minutes!
