OB-Tools, an Israeli firm, won FDA regulatory approval to introduce its fetal heart rate monitoring capabilities within the company’s TrueLabor fetal monitor. The TrueLabor system uses contact electromyography to detect both the heart rate of the child and any contractions forecasting labor.
The sensor pad is placed onto the mother’s belly with electrodes touching the skin. One of the sensor components inside of it is able to detect the placement of the pad on the belly, used to calibrate and adjust the readings to achieve high accuracy.
The company is touting that its device will not be fooled by coughs, movement, and other distractions that can confuse other systems.
OB-Tools expects to begin making the system available in the U.S. later this year with European deliveries starting early next year.
