Medtronic won EU approval to introduce the Visia AF and Visia AF MRI SureScan single-chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) that can spot previously undetected atrial fibrillation (AF). Since symptoms of AF in some patients occur paroxysmally with short duration, detecting the condition using external ECG monitors can be a challenge. The Visia AF ICDs will measure the frequency and length of AF episodes and transmit that information wirelessly to the patient’s cardiologist.
The Visia AF MRI is compatible with full-body MRI scans as long as it’s implanted along with the Sprint Quattro Secure MRI SureScan DF4 leads.
A couple of the features both of the Visia AF devices share is the SmartShock 2.0 shock reduction algorithm that can better tell dangerous from benign rhythms and a unique shape with smooth edges that reduces pressure on the skin.
