Late last year we reported on a novel new technology for enhancing television and other video signals to improve viewing experience of color blind people. The Eyeteq image processing algorithms are being commercialized by Spectral Edge, a spin-out company of the University of East Anglia.
The company just announced Eyeteq has just been integrated with the Cannes set-top-box chipset from STMicroelectronics, a maker of cable TV receiver technology. Manufacturers of set-top-boxes with the chipset will now be able to offer color blind customers the option to engage Eyeteq, hopefully for free. We also look forward to this and similar technology to be integrated into TVs, computer monitors, and other displays as a part of an overall effort to help address all types of disabilities.
