Siemens just announced FDA clearance of the Mammomat Fusion digital mammography system. The device features a cesium-iodide detector that was built to help manage the delivered radiation dose, leading to lower exposure compared with similar full-field digital mammography systems. To cover most of the spectrum of breast sizes, the Mammomat Fusion has a 23×30 cm plate on which only extreme examples wouldn’t fit.
Making things easy, the system has simple controls to position the scanner and has predefined settings to quickly go from patient to patient. The control work station has an adjustable table, a high resolution monitor, and the ability to burn DVDs on the spot.
