Samsung announced that it will soon be releasing a new sleep aid called Sleep Sense that will be able to track sleep by relying on parameters previously unavailable to consumers. The device, powered by technology from EarlySense, an Israeli firm, monitors the heart rate, breathing rate, movement in bed, and can detect sleep cycles, all without the person wearing any sensors.
The technology, that’s been on the market for a few years now and that is practically invisible to patients in many of today’s hospitals, has been validated clinically to provide accurate readings. Now EarlySense is making it available for integration into consumer electronics, Samsung being the first big player to jump on board and take advantage of the new capability.
There are few details yet about the Sleep Sense device, including the pricing, but Samsung will be showing it off at the IFA show in Berlin later this week and we expect to find out more.
