SonoSite, now a division of FUJIFILM, just landed CE Mark approval in Europe to introduce its iViz portable ultrasound device. The iViz was developed for use in environments where larger ultrasounds can be impractical, such as air ambulances, mobile clinics, and field work.
The device does color Doppler, M-Mode, and comes with a 5MHz transducer. (We are told by the company that transducers are swappable and connected through a proprietary USB connector, if you need to change your scanning mode.) The machine has a high resolution 7″ touchscreen, as well as HDMI out, USB port, and WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Moreover, the iViz can interface with hospital EMR systems to display and upload patient information, including ultrasound scans, effectively making it somewhat more than just a tiny portable ultrasound.
