Medtronic is releasing its MiniMed Connect wireless device to keep a close eye on insulin pumps and continuous glucometers. It connects to Medtronic’s MiniMed 530G with Enlite and MiniMed Paradigm Revel insulin pumps, which themselves connect to glucose monitors to pass that data. The MiniMed Connect collects the readings and passes them to the user’s smartphone on which charts of blood glucose and insulin injections is tracked and displayed.
Data can be shared with doctors or loved ones that help with diabetes management, and can be viewed on a smartphone using the app or on a computer via a browser. Additionally, readings that fall outside certain levels will trigger the app to send out an alarm to those on a list.
So far the MiniMed connect is compatible with iOS devices, and an Android version is in the works.
