Cook Medical received approval to introduce the Zenith Alpha thoracic endovascular graft in the United States, a device used to treat isolated lesions within the descending thoracic aorta.
The system features a 16-20 French delivery system that has been made narrower than previous devices to be able to achieve easier access. Additionally, the delivery system was designed to require fewer operating steps to move implantation forward at a faster click.
The device is not meant for treatment of dissections of the aorta. It received European regulatory approval back in 2013.
