St. Jude Medical‘s Prodigy MRI spinal cord stimulator received European regulatory approval to be safe for patients undergoing MRI, as long as certain precautions are taken. It’s the smallest rechargeable pulse generator that’s compatible with MRI use.
The Prodigy MRI can function as a traditional implantable pulse generator producing consistent tonic stimulation, or use SJM’s proprietary Burst technology that the company introduced last year.
St. Jude hopes that the newly approved device will allow more people to receive spinal cord stimulation therapy and that it will be more effective for more patients.
