A new innovative company out of Russia is developing an exoskeleton for people with lower limb paralysis. The ExoAtlet-Med device from Moscow-based ExoAtlet is similar to those from Ekso Bionics and ReWalk Robotics that rely on the user to balance using crutches while the machine provides the locomotive power to put one foot in front of the other. Some of the challenges of such systems is to make them produce a natural walking gait and make them use to use by the patients.
The company is taking their device into trials in Russia to investigate its potential for rehab and to help refine the device’s capabilities.
