Most vaccines have to kept within a narrow temperature range to maintain their properties, so convenient vigilant tracking of temperature changes of the vaccines is important in making sure they’ll work. Lascar Electronics, an Erie, PA firm, has unveiled a line of new devices specifically for keeping eye on stored vaccines.
The EL-Vaccination kits include a glycol bottle probe and a temperature logger that can hold 32,000 readings within its memory. The glycol bottle serves as mimic of the actual vaccines being stored in the same refrigerator, experiencing changes similar to the samples. The probes can be set to warn clinicians that the temperature of the sample has gone out of range using a blinking LED light, and some models have USB and WIFI connectivity allowing emails to be sent when something is not within the required parameters.
