Cohero Health, a company based in New York City, landed FDA clearance for its wireless clinical-grade spirometer. The device works along with a paired tablet or smartphone, uploading readings to one of the apps offered by the Cohero that help manage asthma and COPD (AsthmaHero and BreatheSmart respectively).
The apps can share lung volume readings with patients’ physicians and family members, helping to keep everyone up to date on how the disease is progressing and whether treatment is effective. The apps also motivate patients to take regular spirometry readings, send reminders when meds need to be ingested, and have a rewards program when things are done on time. The apps also work with Cohero’s sensors that can be attached to pill bottles and rescue medications to accurate detect when important drugs are taken.
